Towing a kayak

These were the biggest waves I could find for testing the kayak on this trip.
I really wanted to test my kayak on bigger waves, but I didn’t have the opportunity this time. Here I’m towing my wife’s kayak from Ilovik island to Lošinj (Mrtvaška Port). As the sea was calmer between Ilovik and Sv. Petar island, I actually recorded the part from Sv. Petar to Mrtvaška (a short distance of 1.5 km), so there are some calmer sections at the beginning and end of the video because I’m close to the islands. The wind was solid, around 15–20 knots, but Kozjak and Orjule islands to my right likely prevented larger waves from developing. It would have been better to head out into more open water, but we really needed to head home and get the kayaks tied to the roof racks. Maybe next time!

I was going mostly upwind, or more accurately, into a NNE wind coming from slightly off my starboard bow, requiring a bit of edging into it. My speed stayed mostly between 4 and 5 km/h, which I’m pretty happy with given the conditions and the fact that I was towing another kayak!

I’m really sorry about the muffled audio from my camera, but a working GoPro in a protective housing beats a dead one every time, trust me! Let me know if you have a better setup solution.
